Approach

It often begins with a material and a question:what could I make with this?

The material

I work with the coconut palm’s natural sheaths.I cut, fold and assemble them, working with their fibres.Sometimes I have an idea; sometimes the material leads the way.

Experimenting and transforming

I prepare the material, experiment and try again. Some pieces change several times before finding their shape.A detail that bothered me at first can become the one I decide to keep.

Finding a place for each form

Colour can completely change the character of a form.I’m not trying to make useful objects, but pieces that are a pleasure to look at and that people want to make room for.

Keeping on exploring

I enjoy discovering other materials and trying new techniques.I also explore papier-mâché, creating leaf forms where I play with relief and colour.I don’t yet know what I’ll try tomorrow, and that is part of what I enjoy.
